We are delighted to announce that joining the line-up of exceptional speakers at ESOF are:

Laurie Garrett

Laurie is Senior Fellow for Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations, USA, and is the only writer ever to have been awarded all three of the Big "Ps" of journalism: the Peabody, the Polk, and the Pulitzer. Her expertise includes global health systems, chronic and infectious diseases, and bioterrorism, and she will feature in ‘The next plague: preparing for global pandemics’ at 14:15 – 15:30 on Monday 25 July.

Professor Brian Schmidt

Professor Brian P. Schmidt, Vice-Chancellor and President of The Australian National University, was awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae. Professor Schmidt’s keynote talk, which will take place at 08:30 – 09:45 on Tuesday 25 July, is titled: “Big science, new collaborations and engagement with society: the SKA as a 21st Century exemplar.”

Professor Jacqueline McGlade

Professor Jacqueline McGlade is currently Chief Scientist and Director of UNEP’s Division of Early Warning and Assessment. Her research activities are focused on participatory knowledge systems and citizen science, the dynamics of ecosystems and planetary systems, sustainable development and the governance of natural resources, environmental informatics with particular reference to socio-economic transitions, and technological innovation and policy analysis. See her speak at 11:25 – 12:40 on Tuesday 26 July.
