Promoting science among youth
As a way to promote science among youth, EuroScience and ESOF are continuously seeking support to provide talented and highly motivated students and researchers in the early phases of their career, with a unique experience to participate in the Europe’s biggest general scientific conference, both to learn from and contribute to the event. Young researchers’ participation is vital in this important debate as they represent the future generation of scientists, entrepreneurs, industry leaders and policy makers.
Over the years, EuroScience has developed different schemes to support young researchers' participation at ESOF, few of which can be discovered here below.
The Science Train
Jump on the Science Train with 16 students from the University of Strasbourg, France, who went to ESOF 2014 in Copenhagen and tell us about their ESOF adventure (video in French). Walk with them into the land of research and science theatre, as they perform science slam in the ESOF's Science in the City festival.
All aboard the Science Bus
The Science Bus project is based on the successful Barcelona and Torino Science Bus event, realized by the ESOF2008 and ESOF2010 teams, that brought students to Barcelona and Torino for the EuroScience Open Forum. Participants were offered a subsidized ESOF fee, accommodation, and meals as well as free transport from their country of residence to the host city and back.
The Science Bus enables young scientists to get a first sniff at the atmosphere surrounding the professional field of science, research and innovation. The possibility to experience new developments in a personal and hands-on manner, makes this trip a once in a lifetime experience for the students. The importance of social media for the scientific world and the interaction with business are usually important eye openers for most of them.
